Job Description:
Standardized Summary of Responsibilities: Entry level position;
apply acquired edu & experience to work situations and continue
skill development. Under general directive supervision & with
strict adherence to the Company¿s mandatory safety policies &
procedures, the Meter Reader generally: reads meters on customers¿
premises, records the reading on data collection devices &
documents, covers a route on foot or with the use of a vehicle,
resets & reseals meters, reports abnormal conditions; & safely
performs all duties which include but are not limited to: -
Accesses customers¿ premises using the most direct route which will
not cause damage to the customer¿s premises, while maintaining good
customer relations- Reads meters on customers¿ premises, records
readings on cards or data collection devices; checks meter numbers
& addresses.- Demonstrates sound internal/external customer
service- Checks present reading with the acceptable reading-range
provided on reading card or data collection device; or verifies
reading if reading-range is not provided.- Reads, resets & reseals
meters, as required; using demand seals, socket seals or other
appropriate items- Reports any water heating timing device which is
in need of resetting or resealing- Records on the reading card or
data collection device the meter # & current reading in those cases
where the meter has been changed; the following info: actual or
approximate address, meter number & current reading- Travels on
foot or with the use of a private car- Reports abnormal conditions
observed or encountered per established Company procedure;
recommends investigations for reasons such as: low or abnormal
consumption, possible change of rate classification, damaged meter
equipment or other Company equip, evidence of un-metered energy,
including the checking of potential lights in demand meters,
difficult reading conditions at specified location, especially
safety hazards- Obtains &\ uses, as required, keys to
customers¿ premises from Company¿s locker file; maintains key rings
for assigned routes, reports to office any changes or
discrepancies- Relays customer complaints to Supervisor for
possible action- Confirms the meter constant, as recorded on the
reading card or data collection device for demand & KWH
registration with the information recorded on the meter- Operates
vehicles safely- Assists workers of higher

Standardized Summary of Qualifications:- Must pass the EEI Meter
Reader Aptitude Battery.- Must have a high school diploma or GED.-
Must be physically fit to walk up to 8 hrs per day.- Must be able
to provide own personal, reliable transportation for which mileage
will be reimbursed per IRS guidelines- Must be able to operate a
car in accordance with Company safety regulations, have prescribed
insurance coverage, and hold a valid driver¿s license- Must be able
to learn:- To read & record dial readings safely, quickly and
accurately.- The prescribed method of reading meters & the safe and
efficient manner of covering the route assigned.- The correct
method of resetting & resealing meters & water heater timing
devices.. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:NOTE: For all Meter Reader
positions that all candidate are required to pass the EEI testing
prior to the interview process with hiring manager. This is a
requirement of FE compliance policy.

contacts- Must have a suitable and neat appearance; maintaining
clothing, shoes and identification furnished by the Company- Must
demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce
results, and strengthen existing relationship- Must be able to
treat the Company�s and customer�s business as
confidential.
